Technicien/technicienne pharmaceutique

As the Pharmacy Technician, you will be accountable to provide technical pharmacy assistance services in support of provincial government pharmaceutical and medical supply program(s).

You will also plan, coordinate and control pharmaceutical drugs and medical supply inventory within the warehouse.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Providing pharmacy technology research and analysis to determine products to be stocked and recommending product specifications for the procurement process and product database.
  • Preparing analytical and business reports on product utilization for distribution to program or client groups.
  • Maintaining formularies and catalogues and providing detailed technical information for program support, consulting with the multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals as required.
  • Supporting management in the development of procedures and tools for the introduction and integration of new programs.
  • Maintaining records and statistics (e.g. inventory, month-end reports, usage, and drug distribution) and preparing related reports for management decision making.
  • Maintaining inventory levels, i.e. replenishing and re-ordering pharmaceuticals to maintain minimum quantities; ensuring outdated and expired stock are removed from circulation.
  • Collaborating with procurement and evaluation teams for the acquisition of drugs and medical supplies respectively and tracking product prices to make recommendations regarding purchasing strategies.
  • Processing the procurement of items within approved limit and in compliance with required procedures.
  • Assisting in the orientation of new employees, including mentoring, coaching and training of job specific duties.

Successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of the following:

  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
  • Professional pharmacy technician standards, methods and techniques to conduct research and analysis to support introduction of new programs.
  • Controlled drug designations and maintenance procedures to ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Government programs to anticipate and respond to client needs as well as inventory control and requisition procedures to maintain stock levels.
  • Health care policies and procedures and relevant legislation to ensure compliance in the provision of health care services.
  • Warehousing, shipping, inventory management practices and procedures to monitor and maintain inventory levels.
  • Supply chain processes, procedures, standards as it relates to the procurement, receipt, storage and shipping of products and orders.
  • New pharmaceuticals and pricing of products in the marketplace to ensure best value for money.
  • Computer systems to maintain records, to track and order drugs and to collect statistics and generate reports.

Other skills required:

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify, generate and report on statistical trends including order, usage patterns and inventory levels.
  • Well developed communication skills to accurately document and order pharmaceutical and medical supplies.
  • Ability to prepare reports and bulletins on drug usage, product changes, formularies in consultation with various program area partners.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization and attention-to-detail skills to ensure accuracy in documentation and record-keeping.
  • Ability to review purchase orders for accuracy, check inventory levels and monitor inventory replenishment report.
