At Supply Ontario, we believe that modernizing procurement is a key driver of success for Ontario’s public sector. Our mandate is to strengthen and centralize supply chain management and procurement across the public sector, ensuring that Ontario ministries, provincial agencies, hospitals, school boards, children’s aid societies and more have access to high-quality, timely, reliable products at the best value.
Events in Canada and around the world have shown us how fragile global supply chains are. In response, the province established Supply Ontario to accelerate its journey to transform public sector procurement and to build up resources and capacity in our own province.
Using a whole-of-government approach, we are leveraging provincial purchasing power to support the public sector in delivering programs Ontarians can rely on, while addressing procurement barriers for businesses and building a resilient, adaptable supply chain.
Ontario is one of the largest purchasers in Canada, and there are great advantages to buying smarter together.
We understand that the knowledge and expertise of vendors, industry advocates, shared services organizations and our government partners are central to our success. Through consistent, category and sector-specific roundtables, we will continue to place meaningful stakeholder engagement at the centre of our work.
As we transition to a new way of doing business, there are interim measures currently in place that:
- support opportunities for collaborative purchasing where possible, while protecting continuity of business and services
- support the collection of data necessary for building the centralized system
- do not impact current contracts already in place
Measures apply to new procurements of good and services (consulting and non-consulting) valued at $30,300 or higher, or $121,200 or above if a member of the broader public service, that are not utilizing a collaborative contract.
The interim measures and corresponding business procedures for procurement reporting and procurement rationale reviews took effect March 18, 2019. Any procurements released to the vendor community before this date may continue as planned.
